Le métèque

Avec ma gueule de métèque
De Juif errant, de pâtre grec
Et mes cheveux aux quatre vents
Avec mes yeux tout délavés
Qui me donnent l'air de rêver
Moi qui ne rêve plus souvent
Avec mes mains de maraudeur
De musicien et de rôdeur
Qui ont pillé tant de jardins
Avec ma bouche qui a bu
Qui a embrassé et mordu
Sans jamais assouvir sa faim

Avec ma gueule de métèque
De Juif errant, de pâtre grec
De voleur et de vagabond
Avec ma peau qui s'est frottée
Au soleil de tous les étés
Et tout ce qui portait jupon
Avec mon cœur qui a su faire
Souffrir autant qu'il a souffert
Sans pour cela faire d'histoires
Avec mon âme qui n'a plus
La moindre chance de salut
Pour éviter le purgatoire

Avec ma gueule de métèque
De Juif errant, de pâtre grec
Et mes cheveux aux quatre vents
Je viendrai, ma douce captive
Mon âme sœur, ma source vive
Je viendrai boire tes vingt ans
Et je serai prince de sang
Rêveur ou bien adolescent
Comme il te plaira de choisir
Et nous ferons de chaque jour
Toute une éternité d'amour
Que nous vivrons à en mourir

Et nous ferons de chaque jour
Toute une éternité d'amour
Que nous vivrons à en mourir

Georges Moustaki

[Con mi careto de moro*
De judío errante, de pastor griego
Y con mi pelo al viento
Con mis ojos tan descoloridos
Parece que estoy soñando
Yo que ya no sueño a menudo
Con mis manos de ladrón
De músico y de merodeador
Que han saqueado tantos jardines
Y mi boca que ha bebido
Ha besado y ha mordido
Sin jamás saciar su hambre

Con mi careto de moro
De judío errante, de pastor griego
De ladrón y de vagabundo
Con mi piel que se ha restregado
Al sol de todos los veranos
Y a todo lo que llevaba falda
Con mi corazón que ha sabido hacer
Sufrir tanto como ha sufrido
Sin por ello montar el número
Con mi alma que ya no tiene
Ninguna posibilidad de salvarse
Y evitar el purgatorio

Con mi careto de moro
De judío errante, de pastor griego
Y con mi pelo al viento
Vendré, mi dulce cautiva
Mi alma gemela, mi manantial
Vendré a beberme tus veinte años

Ruibal. Laboa.

Hegoak ebaki banizkio
nerea izango zen,
ez zuen aldegingo.
Bainan, honela
ez zen gehiago txoria izango
eta nik...
txoria nuen maite.

[Si le hubiera cortado las alas
habría sido mío,
no habria escapado.
Pero así,
habría dejado de ser pájaro.
Y yo...
yo lo que amaba era un pájaro.]

Mikel Laboa

Revolutionary Road

La película adecuada en el momento oportuno.

CHARLIE ROSE: So what’s interesting to me about it is it also, in
these two characters, embodies this basic dichotomy between freedom and
order, between wanderlust and responsibility, all that.

SAM MENDES: Well, it’s -- I think what moves me most about the book
and what movie me about the movie, I hope moves other people, is that they
so desperately want to remain together. You know...

CHARLIE ROSE: Above all.

SAM MENDES: Yes, and I think it’s -- but it’s a tragic love story.
At the end of the day, it is about two people who want to remain together,
but are being pulled apart by circumstance. You know, but it is also about
something very central, I think, to thinking now about relationships. And
this is something which makes it, I think, not just a period piece, which
is there is this universal theme in the middle of the movie about how do
you take control of your life if one day you wake up in your mid-30s and
you are not living the life you want to live.

CHARLIE ROSE: That’s I think the subtext.

SAM MENDES: So I think a lot of people live lives, find themselves
living lives that they didn’t expect to live, that they didn’t want to
live, compromising, compromising with their partner or their home or their
job or any number of things.

CHARLIE ROSE: Education and mortgages.

SAM MENDES: All of those things. I’m a big believer in, you know, I
think I may have said this on the show before, that life is diamond-shaped.
You know what I mean? And you know, for a while in your life, you know,
the possibilities are endless and perspectives, you know, that the world
seems boundless and full of possibility.

But at a certain point, you know, those lines start drawing in, and
you make your choices. You know, who are you, what do you do. Who are you
married to, do you want to have children. Now you can’t have a
relationship with another person because you have committed to this. You
can’t have another job because you have committed to this.

CHARLIE ROSE: Life is about choice.

SAM MENDES: So life starts going inwards. And at that point, people,
some people start to panic. You know, what happens when life goes inwards
and you haven’t made those choices or you have been unaware of making those
choices? And how do you get it back? You have one chance -- I think Yates
says this -- one chance to get your life back, to recapture the dreams when
you were 18, 19.

CHARLIE ROSE: And how do you know when that moment is?

SAM MENDES: Well, I think most people do know. I think most people
do know that there is a moment when they realize they’ve made a mistake,
and they might be -- there might be a chance to escape. And that doesn’t
mean necessarily divorce. It means to re -- to begin their life again, you
know. Everyone, in the context of this movie, you know, Kate’s character
is obsessed with refinding the love they once had and the belief that they
could have a life that was fulfilling.

CHARLIE ROSE: And how often do you think that happens? If, in fact,
you, for all the reasons we talk about, lose the love, you can somehow
refind it?

SAM MENDES: Well, in April’s case, the character, she pins all her
hopes on something that he promised her when they first met, which was that
they would go to Paris and they would live a life in Paris. And Paris was
unlike everywhere else.

But Paris is a metaphor in the movie and in the book. Everyone has
their Paris. Everyone has their -- the place where they were, where
everything was possible. You know?

So romantic

You always had a taste for those movies
Like Casablanca and Song o' My Heart
Where a complicated world
Or the call of adventure
Forces true lovers to part
When the hero turns his back so stoically
On all the happiness they might have had

You always considered it
So romantic
But I just considered it sad

It was so like you to choose such a moment
The sun setting over the square
A pavement cafe, the local children at play
The sound of an accordion somewhere
You suddenly said Fate was pulling us apart
Then you shrugged, like there was nothing more to add

I suppose you considered that
So romantic
Well, I just considered it sad

Perhaps you're living in America now
Perhaps you're in Timbuktu
A small part of me, even after this time
Has never stopped waiting for you
To live in this state of hoping
When hoping seems so utterly mad
I can't help but consider that so romantic
Though I know I should consider it sad.

Stacey Kent

Ces petits riens

Mieux vaut n'penser à rien
Que n'pas penser du tout
Rien c'est déjà
Rien c'est déjà beaucoup
On se souvient de rien
Et puisqu'on oublie tout
Rien c'est bien mieux
Rien c'est bien mieux que tout

Mieux vaut n'penser à rien
Que de penser à vous
Ça ne me vaut rien
Ça ne me vaut rien du tout
Comme si de rien
N'était je pense à tous
Ces petits riens
Qui me venaient de vous

Si c'était trois fois rien
Trois fois rien entre nous
Evidemment
Cà ne fait pas beaucoup
Ce sont ces petits riens
Que j'ai mis bout à bout
Ces petits riens
Qui me venaient de vous

Mieux vaut pleurer de rien
Que de rire de tout
Pleurer pour un rien
C'est déjà beaucoup
Mais vous vous n'avez rien
Dans le cœur et j'avoue
Je vous envie
Je vous en veux beaucoup

Ce sont ces petits riens
Qui me venaient de vous
Les voulez-vous ?
Tenez ! Que voulez-vous ?
Moi je ne veux pour rien
Au monde plus rien de vous
Pour être à vous
Faut être à moitié fou.

Pasado

Algo me falta.

Y no me defraudó.

Please don’t talk
My mind is out for a walk
Just go on touching me

Feel your way
Baby make my day
Just go on touching me

Paradise sounds pretty nice
But nothing could be better than this
Nothing could be better than this

Hold me tight
Honey you’re getting it right
Just keep on loving me

Don’t be shy
Your clever hands don’t lie
Please please keep on loving me

Istanbul sounds wonderful
But nothing could be better than this
Oh no, nothing could be better than this

Maní…
Maní…

Caserita no te acuestes a dormir
Sin comer un cucurucho de maní

Maní…
Maní…

Caserita no te acuestes a dormir,
Sin comer un cucurucho de maní

Take your time
Hot and slow is fine
Lay your hands all over me

Make it last
There’s no need to go fast
Just lay your hands on me

Hollywood sounds pretty good
But nothing could be better than this
Oh no, baby
Nothing could be better this

Your clever hands never lie
Nothing could be better than this
Don’t stop now

Nothing could be better than this

I don't want to set the world on fire

I don't want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart
In my heart I have but one desire
And that one is you
No other will do

I've lost all ambition for wordly acclaim
I just want to be the one you'd love
And with your admission that you'd feel the same
I'll have reached the goal I'm dreaming of, believe me

One of us cannot be wrong

I lit a thin green candle
To make you jealous of me,
But the room just filled up with mosquitoes
They heard that my body was free
Then I took the dust from a long sleepless night
And I put it in your little shoe,
Then I confess that I tortured the dress
That you wore for the world to look through.

I showed my heart to the doctor
He said I'd just have to quit
Then he wrote himself a prescription
And your name was mentioned in it,
And he locked himself in a library shelf
With all of the details of our shabby honeymoon
And I hear from his nurse that he's gotten much worse
And his practice has fallen to ruin.

I heard of a saint who had loved you
Yeah, I studied all night in his school
He taught that the duty of lovers
Is to tarnish the golden rule,
And just when I was sure that his teachings were pure
He went and drowned himself in the pool,
His body is gone, yeah, but back here on the lawn
His spirit continues to drool.

An eskimo showed me that movie
He'd recently taken of you
While the poor man could hardly stop shivering,
His lips, his fingers were blue
I suppose he froze when the wind tore up your clothes
And I guess he just never got warm
But you stand there so nice in your blizzard of ice
O please let me come into the storm.

I suppose he froze when the wind tore up your clothes
And I guess he just never got warm
But you stand there so nice in your blizzard of ice
O please let me come into the storm.

Extremely interesting.

Up to me

Everything went from bad to worse, money never changed a thing,
Death kept followin', trackin' us down, at least I heard your bluebird sing.
Now somebody's got to show their hand, time is an enemy,
I know you're long gone,
I guess it must be up to me.

If I'd thought about it I never would've done it, I guess I would've let it slide,
If I had payed attention to what others were thinkin', the heart inside me would've died.
But I was just too stubborn to ever be governed by enforced insanity,
Someone had to reach for the risin' star,
I guess it was up to me.

Oh, the Union Central is pullin' out and the orchids are in bloom,
I've only got me one good shirt left and it smells of stale perfume.
In fourteen months I've only smiled once and I didn't do it consciously,
Somebody's got to find your trail,
I guess it must be up to me.

It was like a revelation when you betrayed me with your touch,
I'd just about convinced myself that nothin' had changed that much.
The old Rounder in the iron mask slipped me the master key,
Somebody had to unlock your heart,
He said it was up to me.

Well, I watched you slowly disappear down into the officers' club,
I would've followed you in the door but I didn't have a ticket stub.
So I waited all night 'til the break of day, hopin' one of us could get free,
When the dawn came over the river bridge,
I knew it was up to me.

The only decent thing I did when I worked as a postal clerk
Was to haul your picture down off the wall near the cage where I used to work.
Was I a fool or not to protect your real identity?
You looked a little burned out, my friend,
I thought it might be up to me.

Well, I met somebody face to face and I had to remove my hat,
She's everything I need and love but I can't be swayed by that.
It frightens me, the awful truth of how sweet life can be,
But she ain't a-gonna make her move,
I guess it must be up to me.

We heard the Sermon on the Mount and I knew it was too complex,
It didn't amount to anything more than what the broken glass reflects.
When you bite off more than you can chew you got to pay the penalty,
Somebody's got to tell the tale,
I guess it must be up to me.

Dupree came in pimpin' tonight to the Thunderbird Cafe,
Crystal wanted to talk to him, I had to look the other way.
Now, I just can't rest without you, love, I need your company,
But you ain't a-gonna cross the line,
I guess it must be up to me.

There's a note left in the bottle, you can give it to Estelle,
She's the one you been wond'rin' about, but there's really nothin' much to tell.
We both heard voices for a while, now the rest is history,
Somebody's got to cry some tears,
I guess it must be up to me.

So go on, boys, and play your hands, life is a pantomime,
The ringleaders from the county seat say you don't have all that much time.
And the girl with me behind the shades, she ain't my property,
One of us has got to hit the road,
I guess it must be up to me.

If we never meet again, baby, remember me,
How my lone guitar played sweet for you that old-time melody.
And the harmonica around my neck, I blew it for you, free,
No one else could play that tune,
You know it was up to me.

Business time

Aww yeah
Girl tonight we're gonna make love
You know how I know?
Because it's Wednesday
And Wednesday night is the night that we usually make love
Tuesday night is the night we usually go to your mother's place
And I teach her how to use the video machine again
But Wednesday night is the night that we're making love

When everything is just right
You're not too tired for me after work social sport team practice
There's nothing good on tv
Conditions are perfect for making love
You turn to me and whisper something sexy like,
"I might go to bed. I've got work in the morning."
I know what you're trying to say baby.
You're trying to say "Aww, yeah. It's business time.”

It’s business
It’s business time
I know what you’re trying to say
You're trying to say it's time for business,
it's business time, oooh
It's business
It's business time
Aww ohooowoah yeah, yeah

Then in the bathroom brushing our teeth
That's all part of the foreplay, i love foreplay
Then you go sort out the recycling
That isn't part of the foreplay,
but it's still very important

Next thing you know we're in the bedroom
You're wearin' that baggy old ugly T-shirt you got from work several years ago
Mmmm, you know the one, baby
With the color stain

I remove my clothes
Very very clumsly
Trippin over my jeans 'cause I'm still wearing my shoes
But it's okay because I turn it all into a sexy dance.

Next thing you know I'm wearing absolutely nothing
Except for my socks
And you know when I'm down to just my socks
what time it is
It's business time

It's business
It's business time
When I'm down to my socks it's time for business
That's why they're called business socks, oooh
It’s business
It’s business time
Oooh, hoo hoo hoo oooh yeah, yeah

Making love
Making love for
Makin love for two
Making love for two minutes
When it's with me you only need two minutes,
because I'm so intense
Two minutes in heaven is better than one minute in heaven

You turn to me and say something sexy like, "Is that it?"
I know what you’re trying to say, girl
You're trying to say, "Aww yeah, that's it"
And then you tell me you want some more
Well, uh... I'm not surprised
But I'm quite sleepy

Mmm
It's business
It's business time
Business hours are over, baby
It's business
It's business time

(Aaaaaaaaah)

(Chorus:)
All I want is a bilingual girl to love me in both languages
To talk to me in Spanish when we are getting started

I don't care if we stay in touch
I don't care if she has an accent
Just want my bilingual girl
Don’t want no material girl

Just want my bilingual girl
Don’t want no material girl
Just want my bilingual girl
Don’t want no material girl
Just want (Just want)
Don’t want (don’t want)
Just want (Just want)
Don’t want (don’t want)

Two tongues are better that one
Two tongues are better that one
Two tongues are better that one
Two tongues are better that one

Curiosidad

Y me he perdido muchas cosas, he dejado de crecer, de aprender.

Deseos

If wishes were horses

Why'd I turn on you and say those things?
I didn't mean 'em
Wish you were bringing your love back to me
Instead of leavin'

(Chorus:)
But if wishes were horses
I'd have a ranch
Come on and give me another chance
Come on and give me
Come on and give me
Come on and give me another chance

We used to drive through the canyons
and down to where the land meets the sea
I never knew what I had back there till you
Went away from me

Repeat chorus

I was scared of standing on the edge
Of darkness looking in
I hurt you bad and now I wish
We could begin again

Repeat chorus

Wish I could turn a sad and blue, blue day
Into something good
Wish I could somehow make it go away
I wish you understood

Repeat chorus

Come on and give me
Come on and give me
Come on and give me another chance

Lucinda Williams

Knowing

I didn't know what love meant before
I didn't know what you had waiting for me in store
I didn't know that I'd be finding out so much more

(Chorus:)
About the knowing
And the knowing is all there is
About yes
And yes this is it
I didn't know

I didn't know what precious time would make
I didn't know how fragile a kiss could seem
I didn't know that finally all of dawn is trained

Repeat chorus

I didn't know I'd never look at life the same
I didn't know until I walked with you in the rain
I didn't know until I found out you felt the same

Repeat chorus

I didn't know until together we lay
I didn't know until you touched my soul that day
I didn't know that you would teach me in your own way

Repeat chorus

I didn't know

Lucinda Williams
